Department of Pharmacy Practice

Department of Pharmacy Practice

This Department serves to demonstrate excellence through performance in the areas of teaching, practice and research.  The Department consists of 8 on-campus faculty members, 25 clinical faculty, and over 400 affiliate preceptors in a variety of pharmacy environments. Many of our faculty have expertise in specialized areas of pharmacy practice, including ambulatory care, cardiology, drug information, infectious disease, neurology, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacy administration, to name but a few!

This Department focuses on the integration of the therapeutics and the science into a practical, patient-oriented approach to providing pharmacy care. Faculty members in this department are encouraged to maintain an active pharmacy practice outside the classroom. This may include developing, enhancing or implementing innovative services, and well as interacting with and providing continuing education to other practicing pharmacists. This serves to keep our instructors in touch with the community and current healthcare practices, and allows them to bring what they gain from their practice back to our students in the classroom.

The Department of Pharmacy Practice supports the College of Pharmacy’s Mission Statement by:

  •  Contributing to our profession through active leadership in local, state and national professional organizations, and fostering involvement at the student level at our campus.
  •  Promoting practice and research that will allow our students to expand their understanding of:

                o   direct patient-care related issues

o   economical impact of healthcare decisions

o   drug therapies that will improve the lives of others.

  • Devoting activities and instructing style to bring focus to patient safety, including the safe and effective use of medications for all patients

Our goal is to prepare students for active participation in their field as critical thinkers and life-long learners!
