Symposium to Showcase Student Academic Research

The University of Findlay will host the third annual Symposium for Scholarship and Creativity Tuesday, April 7. The afternoon will include student academic presentations, student awards and guest speakers.
   
A welcome and University awards ceremony is at 12:15 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Union (AMU) Multipurpose Room (MPR). Dr. DeBow Freed, UF president, and Dr. Daniel May, vice president for academic affairs, will speak briefly, as well as UF senior hospitality management majors Emily Jackson and Lauren Mercer.
   
Student academic presentations, on a variety of topics, begin at 1:15 p.m. and continue every 30 minutes, with the final presentations beginning at 3:45 p.m. All student presentations will take place concurrently in multiple locations in Old Main.
   
Two theater presentations will be featured. At 1:15 p.m., “An Actor’s Life for Me,” will be presented. At 2:15 p.m., scenes from “The Importance of Being Earnest” will be presented. Both performances are in Ritz Auditorium in Old Main.
   
From 2:45-3:40 p.m., a cake decorating demonstration will take place in the AMU Atrium. Students will demonstrate cake-decorating techniques that were learned in a class during the fall semester.
   
Each of the University’s colleges also will host award presentations and speakers. Guest speakers include Barbara Meyers at 1:15 p.m. in Winebrenner Theological Seminary (WTS); Kevin Moyer at 1:15 p.m. in the AMU MPR; Dr. Jonathan Davis at 2:15 p.m. in the AMU MPR; Dr. Barbara Piper at 2:15 p.m. in WTS; Dr. Marc Sweeney at 2:15 p.m. in the Davis Street Building, Room 102; and Greg Denecker at 3:15 p.m. in WTS.
   
A closing reception is at 4:30 p.m. in the AMU MPR.
