Dave FergusonThe University of Findlay can take singular pride in its strong athletics tradition, which has received attention of late through the publication of legendary coach Dick Strahm’s book recounting his winning ways during 24 years at Findlay. “Just Call Me Coach” describes the four national championships his football teams won during his tenure, but other campaigns as well, including his ability to overcome opponents with names like heart disease, cancer and stroke.

Most important, however, is the impact he had on the lives of the young men who played for him. Dick prepared them for success in life and helped strengthen the personal codes of ethics needed to live meaningful lives. Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel, who has known Dick for many years, offers this high praise: “…perhaps the greatest story ever written in this state that revolves around (football) is the story of the legendary Dick Strahm….He is a teacher, a coach, a father, a friend, a mentor and a role model for all.”
